Reiki

Reiki (ray-kee) is a gentle healing method that can reduce pain, lower stress, and aid in increasing feelings of serenity and peace.  Anyone can learn this practice to use for self-care or to help others.  In my private practice, I have found great success in offering Reiki to persons who are experiencing severe pain or are in weakened states of health, such as with those who are being treated for cancer, the dying, and others for whom a light, gentle healing approach is needed.

Reiki is an ancient practice that was rediscovered in Japan during the mid-1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui and brought to this country by Reiki Master Hawayo Takata in the 1940s.  It can be learned by anyone.  Reiki is most often translated as universal life force energy, the mysterious unseen force that animates all living beings and keeps us alive.  Reiki classes help to open up the ability to access this universal energy and to use it for self-healing and for treating others. Reiki is highly relaxing and helps the body return to a place of physical and emotional balance.

There are several schools of Reiki.  I was trained in the Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho system.  Within this system, there are three levels of Reiki training available.  In First Degree Reiki, you learn how to treat yourself and others.  In Second Degree Reiki, you are able to send healing energy across the globe and forward and back in time.  Third Degree Reiki is meant for those who want to become Reiki teachers.  Professional healers and the general public are invited to participate in these classes.  For certain professions, these classes qualify for continuing education credits.  Check the laws for your profession in your state to see whether you can count this for continuing education.

The secret art of inviting happiness,
The miraculous medicine for all diseases:
Just for today, do not anger
Just for today, do not worry
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders
Earn your living honestly
Show gratitude to every living thing.
Every morning and evening, join your hands in meditation and pray with your heart.
State in your mind and chant with your mouth for improvement of mind and body.
