Movement therapies support the body in finding the most efficient and pain-free ways to stand, sit walk, and perform other everyday movements. The result is increased flexibility and range of motion in the joints, and reduced pain and tension in the muscles. I am certified in two forms of movement therapy: Bones for Life® and Biosomatics®. These movement therapies help the brain to ‘re-wire’, to move beyond habitual ways of moving and find alternate ways that bring greater comfort and ease in body and mind.
Students are led through slow, focused movements that invite being fully present to their experiences. Many of these movements simulate primal patterns of movement that are developed early in life, providing an opportunity for changing old movement patterns.
Bones for Life® focuses on both improving skeletal alignment and stability and on increasing flexibility. Its name comes from studies that have found that applying pressure through the body in certain ways increases bone mass, particularly important as we age. Biosomatics®’s focus is primarily on improving range of movements. Bones for Life® and Biosomatics® share a common beginning; they are both offshoots of Feldenkrais® movement therapy. I incorporate both systems into the classes I teach.
